MANDOOKAPARNI -Centella asiatica grows in temperate and tropical swampy areas in many regions of the world.The stems are slender, creeping stolons, green to reddish-green in color, connecting plants to each other.It is a potent Central nervous system relaxant, peripheral vasodilator, sedative, antibiotic, detoxifier, blood-purifier,  cooling, laxative, intellect promoting, anodyne, carminative, digestive, anti inflammatory, depurative, bronchodilator, diuretic, cardiotonic, febrifuge.

Mandookaparni is used as a “Medhya Rasayana” and in the treatment of skin and mental ailments as recommended by Ayurveda. In many parts of India, it is used as a substitute of Brahmi (Bacopa monnjera). Its nootropic (nourishment effects on nervous tissue) and immunomodulatory activities have been well investigated. Comparative studies between Mandukaparni and Brahmi have shown it similar to Brahmi in action. However, it is more gentle as compared to latter, as regards to its effect on brain and nervous tissue.

  • Mandukaparni is full of bio-chemical substances such as heteroside, saponoside, asiaticoside, triterpene acids, indocentellocide, hydrocotylin, resin, pectic acid, vitamin-C, vellarin, brahmocide, brahminocide, brahmic acid, isobrahmic acid, betulic acid, etc.
  • It is known for many medicinal benefits and uses such as nervine tonic, stomachic, soporific, cardiac tonic, carminative, sedative, laxative, alterative, alexiteric, tranquilizer, decongestant, immuno-stimulant and blood purifier.
  • Skin diseases like eczema, erysipelas, leprotic ulcers are treated with the help of this ayurvedic herb.
  • It is good for healthy hair. The massage of mandookaparni  juice and coconut oil is helpful to stimulate the hair follicles thus preventing hair fall and greying of hair.
  • It acts as a tonic for nerve. It also acts as a mood elevator from the conditions like stress, anxiety, tension, depression, etc.
  • The mix of mandukaparni and chotakulpha is great to alleviate female sterility.
  • Respiratory conditions like asthma, bronchitis, hiccups, etc. may be treated with the help of mandukaparni.
  • It is beneficial in the case of epilepsy. The mix of Brahmi powder, Shankhpushpi powder, Mukta Pishti, Honey, etc. is useful in this case.

  • It is also recommended for those patients, who have low RBC count. Besides, hemoglobin formation, it is for sugar, cholesterol, calcium, etc.

  • In the case of sleeplessness, it is given with cow milk.
